How To Safely Store Your Egg Wraps

Crepini® Egg wraps are a low-carb, high-protein alternative to your standard wrap, making them an excellent choice for a healthier sandwich bread alternative. However, if you’ve just popped your first ever packet in the cart, you may have a few questions about the best way to store your new soon-to-be-favorite food.

It pays to be cautious about any food products, and doubly so with those that contain eggs. That’s why we have created this handy guide that covers everything you need to know about keeping your Crepini egg wraps in tip-top shape, totally fresh, and tasting amazing every time.

Storing Your Crepini Wraps 101

Unlike regular flour-based wraps that you likely usually just toss in a bread bin or keep out on the kitchen counter for easy access, you will want to keep your egg wraps refrigerated while you’re busy coming up with some great ways to prepare and serve them. If left unopened in the refrigerator, they will be good right up to the expiration date, which is printed on the back of the package..

If You Have Kept Your Crepinis Refrigerated

If you manage to forget about your Crepini egg wraps somewhere in the back of your fridge (we’re not sure how you could… but crazier things have happened) and the expiration date has passed, they will probably be okay as long as they have been stored correctly. If they still smell and taste good, they should be OK to consume. You’ll have to use your best judgment on that one.

If Your Crepinis Have Been Unrefrigerated

On the other hand, if you have forgotten about your Crepini egg wraps (the horror!) and left them out of the fridge, then chances are they are past their best. As our wraps are made of mostly eggs, keeping them in a warm room for too long could make them yucky to eat. Usually, any longer than 2 hours, and you’ll sadly have to trash them to be on the safe side. If they were in a cooler kitchen, they could be fine. Again, you’ll have to gauge this yourself.

Smart Storage of Your Crepinis

Once you have opened the pack, storing your wraps inside a ziplock bag is a good idea. This helps to keep them fresher for longer. Either way, aim to finish them within seven days from opening. They may still be perfectly fine to eat after this, but we can only guarantee the best taste for those seven days. Keeping them longer than this, even in the fridge, could dry them out.

If you are refrigerating your wraps with any other ingredients, this should be fine too. Just check the storability of each of them. You can put them in a tupperware container and keep them in the fridge. You’ll probably want to get to them within a day or two while they are still tasting their best. You have even less time if you store your Crepini®s with cooked items, especially ones with meat and/or dairy. These tend to expire far quicker and can also cause mold to grow faster on the wraps themselves.

Freezing Your Crepinis

You also have another option of stocking up on your favorite types of Crepini wraps or a nice mix-and-match selection if that appeals, without worrying about them going bad. All you need to do is freeze them! Yup, happily, all our wraps are freezer-friendly and taste just as good defrosted as when they are eaten fresh. They can even be kept frozen for as long as a year, so you never have to worry about running out. This is also great for when you have wraps that are getting close to their expiration date. Just pop ‘em in the freezer - and nice save!

If you haven’t opened your wraps yet, obviously, you can just freeze them like that. However, even with one or two going spare, they can be kept for another time if you like. All you have to do is lay them out in a ziplock bag. We do recommend separating them with wax paper, though, so you can pull out as many as you need without any going to waste (as if they would…)

Unfortunately, using your Crepini wraps after freezing will take a little more planning than simply whipping them out of the fridge as you normally would. You’ll need to defrost them for several hours in the refrigerator (overnight works best). Once thawed again, you have seven days to slot them into your meal plan, for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, as a snack, or even as a creative dessert!

Happy eating!  :)
